2002 Arch Fantasy League Rules & Regulations 07.10.01 Commissioner: Ursula Hunt Assistant Commissioner: Mack Hobbs Treasurer: Mack Hobbs You have been cordially invited to participate in the best fantasy football league in North Texas. You have been chosen because: 1. You're a serious competitor who wants to win, but you enjoy the game regardless of your team's standings. 2. You're a class act, and your integrity is well known among the other owners. 3. If late in the season you determine that you cannot possibly make the playoffs, you still play for "pride." The league can count on you to play your best possible line-up each week, right up until the bitter end! 4. If you choose not to participate this year, or you must drop out for any reason, you will give the league sufficient notice so that a new owner can be found to take over your team. 5. No matter how much beer you drink, you won't dance naked on the table at league functions. You do not have to be affiliated with Arch in any way in order to participate. The Arch League is a "playoff" league and a "yardage" league. Our goal is for the league to consist of 20 teams. Any current owner who wants to sponsor (nominate) a new owner for inclusion in the league may do so by having a petition signed by at least 7 current owners and presenting the petition to the Commissioner prior to the entry fee deadline. The petition must be accompanied by the candidate's entry fee. The new owner will then be accepted into the league. By sponsoring a new owner, you are making a statement to the league that you believe this person will be an active, responsible owner who will be good for the league. FANTASY SEASON The "regular fantasy season" will coincide with NFL Weeks 1 through 13. PLAYOFFS A Teams The A Teams consist of each division winner plus the two best teams from each division respectively. In other words, the top three teams from each division. Week 14 Seeds 1 and 2 have a bye Seed 3 plays Seed 6 Seed 4 plays Seed 5 Seed 1 and Seed 2 are the winners of their respective divisions. Tie-Breakers are as follows: Overall Record Total Cumulative Points Division Record Seed 3 through 6 are determined using the same tie-breaker system as above. Week 15 Seed 1 plays the lowest seeded winner of Seeds 3 through 6 Seed 2 plays the next lowest winner of Seeds 3 through 6 The two loosing teams of Seeds 3 through 6 play the first week of a two-week playoff for 5th and 6th place. Week 16 Week 15 winners play for the Super Bowl (1st & 2nd place) Week 15 losers play for the Consolation Bowl (3rd & 4th place) B Teams The remaining 14 teams will begin a three-week playoff beginning Week 14 and ending Week 16. All team scores start at zero. The cumulative points scored over the next three weeks will be used to give prize money to the top three teams for places 7 through 9. The tiebreakers for the B Teams are the same as the A Teams. The total overall record from Week 1 through 13 followed by total cumulative points, followed by division record. DRAFT DAY Currently, Draft Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, at 1:00 pm at Sports City (Mack will be providing directions for those who do not know where it is). The draft will last 16 rounds. It will take 5 to 6 hours to complete. This gives time for 1 minute per player to be drafted (320 players total) and SHORT breaks. The draft logistics are as follows: The East Division will start and complete the first 2 rounds of their draft. The West Division will then complete the first 2 rounds of their draft. The East will then complete their next 2 rounds etc. etc. until we finish. Note: This is a change from last year. Last year we did 4 rounds per division. Also, we will designate two callers. Their responsibility will be to call out the names of the players as they are drafted so that everyone can hear them. An owner from the East Division will call for the West Division and vice versa. The draft order was determined on July 6th (Please see results at the end of this document). The order will reverse with each new round. The team picking last in the 1st round will pick first in the 2nd round, and last again in the 3rd round, etc. WEEKLY LINE-UP Weekly line-ups will consist of 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 3 Receivers, 1 Place Kicker, 1 Defense/Special Teams. There will be no "Tight-End" position, however you may draft and play tight ends at the Receiver position if you choose to do so. A player's normal, recognized position is the only position he can play. You cannot, for example, substitute Marshall Faulk at the receiver position because you only have 2 receivers available that week. Line-ups should be e-mailed to Ursula Hunt at: or uhunt@hotmail.com 15 minutes prior to the first games' kickoff on Sunday. If you're going to be out of town you may email or phone in your line-up earlier in the week (the commissioner prefers email), but please make your call before 9:00 p.m. For Thursday, Friday and Saturday games you will need to e-mail or phone in only the players that you want to play in those games at least 15 minutes prior to game time. You can then submit the remainder of your line-up on Sunday by the deadline. Note: It is imperative that you let your opponent know your line-up as well. Some owners like to keep up with the results throughout the day. The commissioner is not available on Sunday mornings to do this. I repeat, the commissioner will not be forwarding any line-ups. BYE WEEKS There will be no points carried over from previous weeks for players who are idle due to "bye" weeks. You must play a replacement player from your roster when one of your starters has a bye week. Therefore, you should plan to draft 2 kickers, 2 defenses, etc. unless you want to try to pick one up from the free agent pool at a later date. It is also recommended that you be careful not to draft too many players at any one position who all have bye weeks at the same time. You will receive a score of "0" for any position you can't fill from your roster in a given week. However, you can draft as many or as few at each position as you please; there are no rules to the contrary as long as your roster doesn't exceed 16 players/defenses. TRADES Trades between teams are permitted up until midnight before the start of Week 10. Keep in mind that you cannot exceed the maximum roster provision. If you receive 2 players for 1 in a trade, you must immediately drop a player from your roster. Completed trades will be forwarded to the entire league for review. In the event another owner protests a trade, the Commissioner will make a final decision. Trades are not allowed across divisions. FREE AGENCY Each week, owners who wish to sign "free agents" will have an opportunity to do so at a cost of $2 per player. The free agent "pool" shall consist of all undrafted players, and all players drafted but subsequently dropped from a team's roster. You may bid on one or more free agents by e-mailing the Commissioner between noon and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday of each week. If you do not have access to e-mail, you may call the Commissioner at 817-763-0289. Voice mail is acceptable; but please enunciate clearly, and don't forget to leave your name and number. The Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner will exchange bids prior to noon on Wednesday, so as not to be influenced by other bidders. The bid should contain (a) your name, (b) the full name of the player you wish to add to your roster, and (c) the full name of the player you will drop if your bid is successful. In the case of multiple bids, please be very clear as to the order in which you want to drop players. For example, you may say "Drop in this order," in which case those players will be dropped in the specified order as needed to make room for each successful bid you turn in. Or you may want to say "Drop Trent Green for Kordell Stewart, Jerome Bettis for Curtis Martin, Rod Smith for Jacquez Green," etc. In this case, if Jacquez Green is the only player you're awarded, then Rod Smith (not Trent Green) will be dropped from your roster to make room for your new player. Any team who loses a player for the season (when that player is officially listed on the I/R) will be allowed to pick up a player from the free agent market at no charge. However, he/she must still follow the following criteria: If more than one team bids on the same player (which is usually the case), who gets the player? Here's how it works. The team with the worst overall record will have the 1st choice at free agency. In the event that 2 teams with identical records are bidding on the same player, we will use the following tie breaker system: * Cumulative Points (Lowest to Highest) * Division Record There may be one specific player in the pool that you want to pick up, in which case you would name only that player (and the player you want to drop). If he's not available when your pick comes up, there will be no trade. On the other hand, you may have lost 3 backs over the weekend, and you must pick up at least 2 by this weekend or you're dead meat. In this case your e-mail might say "I want 2 of these backs in this order: John Smith, Patrick Hall, Jim Davis, Emmitt Jones, Harold Green." In each "round," when it's your pick, you will be awarded the first back listed who has not been taken by a team picking ahead of you. The Commissioner will apply as many rounds as are necessary, until all the requested free agents have been taken. The order reverses with each round, just like in the original draft. The Commissioner will notify the league (via e-mail) of all roster changes in time to play those new players in this week's games. You now have your 2 backs, and you owe the league $4. Pay up! Please see Mack (the League Treasurer) before next Wednesday. Teams with an outstanding balance will not be allowed to bid on free agents until the balance is paid. ENTRY FEES/DEADLINE (THE BAD NEWS) Each team will be assessed a fee of $100.00. This fee MUST BE PAID to Mack Hobbs by Draft Day!!! Cash only please. If your fee is not paid on time, your spot will be replaced with a reserve owner. We apologize if this seems harsh, but we've learned from past experience that players who feel they had a poor draft, or are losing several weeks into the season, have little incentive to pay overdue fees. Likewise, an owner with an investment to protect will usually "stick it out" and may eventually, through free agency and a little luck, turn his (or her) team into a winner! We'd rather lose someone before Draft Day, when they can be replaced, than have an owner drop out four weeks into the season and foul things up for everybody. PRIZES (THE GOOD NEWS) Entry fees will be paid out as prizes according to the following formula: 1st PLACE - (Fantasy Bowl Winner) - 57% of pot (Approx. $1049.00) 2nd PLACE - (Fantasy Bowl Loser) - 28% (Approx. $515.00) 3rd PLACE - (Consolation Bowl Winner) - 15% (Approx. $276.00) 4th PLACE - $100.00 5th PLACE - $100.00 6th PLACE - $85.00 7th PLACE - $65.00 8th PLACE - $50.00 9th PLACE - $35.00 10th PLACE - $25.00 PLEASE NOTE: The 4th place thru 10th place prizes is only an approximate. This amount may be slightly less depending on transaction fees received. Consequently, if more transaction fees are received then expected, the 4th - 10th place prizes will be awarded as listed above and the remaining money will be divided among the 1st - 3rd place teams. If you have ANY questions, please see Mack as soon as you read this. Points scored when your defense is not on the field, do not count against your defense. Note: Defense is inclusive of Special Teams. For instance, if you have Dallas as your defense, and Troy has a pass intercepted and returned for a TD, it doesn't count against you because the Dallas Defense was not on the field. Please try and contact your opponent to exchange line-ups before each game. Sundays are a lot more fun when you know which players your opponent is playing that day. We also recommend that you keep up with your own score each week. If you feel that the Commissioner has made a mistake in your scoring, you have until 11:00 a.m. Sunday to contest your score for that week. The Commissioner will then re-check your score and make a final determination. The official source for stats will be the Elias Sports Bureau (ESPN.com). Good Luck to everyone, and please fell free to utilize the league internet page (Currently under construction.) This takes a lot of time each week to update, so if you want to have that benefit, please utilize it!!! I will send out the web address when it is running.
